Who I am
When you are asked "who are you?" it can be a simple or difficult question to answer. We often define our selves by our job or by the fact that we are parents. On this page I more wanted to say what I stand for.
I was a vegetarian for about 3 years because I am an animal lover. I hate animals being hurt or killed. I now eat meat but always look for free range and organic alternatives.
Recently I became aware that palm oil can be found in of our food products, from margarine to chocolate biscuits, and chips to crackers. It is not labelled so we cannot choose to make informed purchase choices. There is legislation being sought at the moment to correct this. Palm oil production has resulted in loss of habitat for many threatened species including Sumatran Tiger, Orang-utan, Asian Elephant and Asian Rhinoceros as well as displacement of some indigenous peoples. See the link area on the right for more info.
Many of my family members and friends do not share my ethical stance on meat products but I am sure I have got them thinking. While they stir me about about my choices I try not to be in their face about it. But of course if they start it.... I believe every person needs to make such decisions for themselves.
I also care about where ingredients come from that are in products I eat, put on my body and clean my house with. I am always researching what is in products and the business practices of the companies behind the products. As I am a masseuse I am particularly concerned about what is in the oils I put on my client's skin. There is more information on my massage and skin care pages.
My husband and I have purchased 100 acres of bush in the Hunter. We love our 'block' and are setting ourselves up to be self sufficient. We are putting in solar electricity and heating and designing our dwelling to be energy efficient. I hope to be able to have some chooks for fresh eggs and to grow our own veges. So again I have been lead in a direction that has inspired me to be concerned about the environment and of course conscious of how we leave the world for others.
